DESCRIPTION:
As a volunteer in the Blain’s Farm & Fleet Kids Korral, located inside Pavilion One at the front, you will help attendees and their families enjoy the activities Midwest Horse Fair provides for their entertainment. The Blain’s Farm & Fleet Kids Korral offers kid-friendly activities that will educate and amuse young horse lovers. You will be asked to assist in a variety of activities such as craft making, educational activities, setting up and leading games, preparing items to be used for various activities, restocking supplies, tidying up, and more.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Please arrive 15 minutes early each day to check in with the Volunteer Coordinator who is located in the Welcome Center at the front of Pavilion Two. This will allow you a few minutes to ask any questions you may have, receive updates that need to be relayed to you, and arrive at your work location on time to relieve the person working the prior shift.
- After check-in, please report to the Kids Korral Coordinator for instructions.
- Please dress appropriately for the weather as you may be near an open door during your shift. Closed toe shoes are required.
- For those interested in purchasing snacks or meals, there is a Food Court located between the Coliseum and Nutrena Arena, as well as food vendors in Exhibition Hall, Coliseum, and front of the Pavilions.
- We recommend that you store personal items in your vehicle, as there are no secured areas to store your valuables (purse, backpack, purchases etc.).
- We ask that you be especially kind, gentle, and upbeat when working with children.
DUTIES:
- Please be courteous and friendly. Remember that you are representing Midwest Horse Fair. We are grateful for the help of our volunteers, and we depend on your good attitude and kind demeanor to make the weekend a success. Please refer any issues to the Kids Korral Coordinator
- Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes
- Each shift lasts 3 hours. In exchange for working three 3-hour shifts throughout the weekend, volunteers can earn a free 3-day wristband (value $55)
- Stay alert at all times and pay attention to your surroundings in case a problem arises and action is required, especially when working directly with children. We politely ask that you limit cell phone usage during your shift
- Assist with set-up and replenish supplies for the day. Help pack away items if you work the last shift of the day
- Help supervise children when you are facilitating hands-on activities and check for adult wristbands on guardians. If you cannot see a wristband, ask to see it. If they do not have a wristband, or have the wrong color, kindly direct them to the Kids Korral Coordinator
- Most activities are self-explanatory; the coordinator will provide additional directions
- Refer any discipline problems with children to their parents or to the Kids Korral Coordinator
- Please do not leave until the next volunteer arrives to take your place. Consult your coordinator before leaving
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed
- Please be advised that assigned jobs may change as needed at any time per the discretion of Midwest Horse Fair
