Dan James is originally from Queensland, Australia. He now lives with his wife, Elizabeth, and their two kids, Isabella and Jesse, in Lexington, Kentucky. There, they operate their Horsemanship company, Double Dan Horsemanship, which was founded in Australia in 2009.
Dan has built an international reputation as an accomplished trainer, competitor, clinician, and entertainer. He represented Australia in reining at the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina, and is a past Road to the Horse World Champion and competitor. A multiple-time freestyle reining champion, Dan is celebrated for combining exceptional horsemanship with imaginative, crowd-favorite performances—including liberty, bridleless riding, and reining. Today, he continues to share his expertise with audiences worldwide and remains a familiar presence at Road to the Horse as a commentator and host.
Double Dan Horsemanship services the equine industry, providing young horse and colt starting programs, performance troubleshooting, and horse training for TV, film, and live show entertainment. Dan has supplied horses for shows such as the hit TV series Heartland, Vogue magazine, and advertising campaigns for Versace.
