DESCRIPTION:
As a volunteer for the Horse Judging Competition, held on Friday only, you will assist the coordinator with contestant check-in. You will provide the contenders with the materials they need to participate in the competition. You may also be asked to answer questions about the competition.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in with the Volunteer Coordinator who will be located in the Welcome Center at the front of Pavilion Two. This will allow you a few minutes to ask any questions you may have, receive updates that need to be relayed to you, and arrive at your work location on time.
- You will then be directed to check in with the Horse Judging Coordinator.
- Please dress appropriately for the weather as you may be outside during your shift. Closed-toe shoes are required.
- For those interested in purchasing snacks or meals, there is a Food Court located between the Coliseum and Tribute Equine Nutrition Arena, as well as food vendors Exhibition Hall, Coliseum, and front of the Pavilions.
- We recommend that you store personal items in your vehicle, as there are no secured areas to store your valuables (purse, backpack, purchases etc.).
TIMES:
The Horse Judging Competition will be held on Friday in Tribute Equine Nutrition Arena (time TBD). This job entails one 3-hour shift only.
DUTIES:
- Please be courteous and friendly. Remember that you are representing Midwest Horse Fair. We are grateful for the help of our volunteers, and we depend on your good attitude and kind demeanor to make the weekend a success
- Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes
- The shift lasts approximately 3 hours. In exchange for working three 3-hour shifts throughout the weekend, volunteers can earn a free 3-day wristband (value $55)
- Stay alert and pay attention to your surroundings in case a problem arises and action is required. We politely ask that you limit cell phone usage during your shift
- Assist contestants with check-in and supply them with a score sheet and any other necessary materials
- Assist with the monitoring of contestants and politely ensure that they remain silent throughout the contest
- Answer questions. If you don’t know the answer, kindly direct the question to the Horse Judging Coordinator
- Be fair and refrain from assisting contestants with their tests
- Ensure that all participants have the appropriately colored wristband. If you cannot see a wristband, ask to see it. If they do not have a wristband, or have the wrong color, kindly direct them to the Horse Judging Coordinator
- Listen to the Horse Judging Coordinator and act accordingly. Please check with them before departing
- Additional duties may be assigned as needed
