Rocky Mountain Horse Association
Valued for a gentle temperament and a smooth-gaited ride, the Rocky Mountain Horse is a standout on the trail and in show rings around the world.
The foundation for this special breed was laid in the hills of Eastern Kentucky in the late 1800s. The horses were bred to be gentle, sure-footed, well-gaited, versatile, easy keepers, and hard-working members of the family. These same traits are valued by Rocky Mountain Horse owners today.
Some Rocky owners enjoy competition, vying in saddle seat, western, in-hand, harness, dressage, trail, versatility, endurance, mounted shooting, and team penning competitions. Others come to the breed looking for a trusted trail mount and enjoy the best traits of Rockies in non-competitive trail riding.
Rocky Mountain Horses may be from 14.2 to 16 hands in height. Chocolate with white manes and tails is a common color combination for the breed, although they may be any solid color with minimal amounts of face and lower leg white.
If you haven't had a chance to meet a Rocky in person, come by their stalls to witness some of the best aspects of the breed. For more information, please visit the Rocky Mountain Horse Association
